LIMITATIONS TO CONDO RENOVATIONS
Condos have regulations and guidelines that are to be adhered to by the Urban Redevelopment Authority in Singapore. Additionally, condos may have their own unique guidelines to maintain the safety or style of the entire condo.
RENOVATION RESTRICTIONS AS SET BY MANAGEMENT CORPORATION
There are rules and limitations for what type of alterations are allowed in the unit set by the Management Corporation. These restrictions can range from the timing at which renovation works take place to limitations on certain features. It is best to consult a professional interior design company with experience in condo remodelling.
FACADE ISSUES
Management Corporations may impose more restrictions on condo unit interior design as it may affect the façade of the condos. For instance, windows and sliding doors cannot be changed or removed as this affects the overall look and façade of the condominium.
Likewise, the balcony cannot have fixed furniture or fitting. Installation of zip tracks or blinds are allowed but would have to follow the condo colours. Certain condos may allow installation of louver windows.
Other restrictions that are standardised are that demolition of structural walls are not allowed. Main door colours may not be changed as well. Different condos may have their own rules.
It is recommended that the interior designer you commission is experienced in renovating condos as all renovations have to adhere to the guidelines set by Management Corporation Strata Title.
REMOVAL OF BULKY RENOVATION WASTE
Waste generated from the works has to be disposed off on a regular basis. There are certain wastes that are not permitted to be thrown into rubbish chutes, such as flammable materials, wet cement and other adhesive items. As such, it is essential to take note of any waste removal guidelines the Management Agent has in place. Waste removal schedules should also be conveyed to the respective Management Agent.
