In Singapore, where most people live in HDBs and condominiums, having the opportunity to renovate your very own landed property can be an exciting yet overwhelming task, especially if you are unsure of what you want to do with your space. Inspiration can come from a variety of sources, and it’s essential to take the time to find the right ideas that will work for you. As such, we at Editor Interior are here to help you in finding the right inspiring ideas for your landed home.
In this article, we will be looking at a particular project that Editor Interior has done recently in District 15. Located along the line of private housing estates near Paya Lebar Quarter, provides some unconventional and stunning renovation ideas you can use to transform your home.
Adding a loft space
Who says loft spaces are solely reserved for loft apartments? These days, loft space is becoming increasingly popular among homeowners as it provides not only increased living space but also versatility, allowing homeowners to customise and adapt the space to whichever room they need.
In this case, the client had requested to remove the 2nd level of the landed property and replace it with a loft space dedicated to a lounging area where guests can hang out. The place also exhibits a few large artworks the owner has. As the loft space is fitted with glass windows, natural light can easily flood the entire home, making the atmosphere airier and more inviting.
Open-concept living
One of the most popular trends in modern homes is the open-concept living area. This involves removing walls and barriers to create an open and fluid space that connects the kitchen, dining, and living areas. If you are looking to transform your home into a communal space where you can socialise with family and friends, such a concept is what you should be aiming for, as what our client has achieved.
The initial layout of the house consists of an outdated kitchen that was closed off from the rest of the living areas. As we wanted to bring more light and airflow into the space, we decided to change the old kitchen area into the master bedroom, while the common bedroom became the new kitchen area, as shown above.
The new kitchen now spots an L-shaped open-concept design, fitted with the right materials, colour scheme, and furniture pieces to make the space feel warmer and more contemporary, complementing the rest of the house.
We also brought more light into the overall space by replacing the half-height window to full-height, making the walkway appear more spacious.
The study room, which used to be one of the common bedrooms, is now freely exposed with the other living areas in the house. Whenever the homeowner needs peace and quiet to work or study, they can always use the sliding door to seclude themselves and provide them with some privacy.
Custom storage solutions
Custom storage solutions are a great way to optimise space and make your home more functional. If your budget entails custom furniture pieces to be built around your house, we recommend going for it in order to make the most of your space and keep your home organised.
From installing custom closets and built-in shelves to hidden storage spaces, there are many ways in which the client can keep their possessions without cluttering the house. As you can see in the above photos, we have replaced old furniture pieces with custom-made ones and inserted a raised floor in one of the bedrooms as effective storage solutions, among others. All these design methods create a space that is functional and durable for many years to come.

With the above-mentioned tips, you can rest assured that your landed property can be done up to your satisfaction and meet your lifestyle expectations.
